High Belt Tricks: Vocal Sleight of Hand

I’m. So. Excited. About. This. Lesson. Look at me, I’m making each word its own sentence. If that doesn’t tell you how excited I am, then…then I’ll have to use a lot of exclamation points, and no one wants that. What were we talking about? Right. MAGIC.

I teach singers how to find their singing superpowers on a regular basis, and today, I get to teach it to YOU.  Let me give you a bit of background before we delve into the mystic arts full on, here.

When I was a kid, I had a Blackstone Magic Set:

I was obsessed with this thing. My stepmom made me a flashy magician’s cape out of an old saloon dress she had for some reason that moms have things and you don’t ask questions. I used to give magic shows to my family every time I mastered a new trick from my Blackstone Magic Set. There was a trick in there that involved using “sleight of hand”, which is basically manipulating objects without the audience noticing it.

In this episode of the Vocal Power Hour, I’m going to teach you how to do a vocal magic trick. It’s like “sleight of hand” of the voice, where you manipulate your voice without your audience noticing a thing.
